93 percent of honorable people going to Lok Sabha are millionaires.
New Delhi: The Lok Sabha elections 2024 are over. Now 93 percent of the candidates elected after the elections are crorepatis, which is 5 percent more than 88 percent in 2019. Election rights body Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) has given this information on the basis of analysis of affidavits filed along with the nomination of the candidates.
Who has the most assets
According to ADR, the top three richest members in the next Lok Sabha are Chandra Shekhar Pemmasani of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) with assets worth Rs 5,705 crore, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with assets worth Rs 4,568 crore and BJP leader Naveen Jindal with assets worth Rs 1,241 crore. Pemmasani has won from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh. Vishweshwar Reddy has been elected from Chevella in Telangana and Naveen Jindal from Kurukshetra in Haryana.
504 out of 543 MPs are crorepatis
According to the analysis, out of 543 members elected to the Lok Sabha, 504 are crorepatis. According to ADR, 475 (88 percent) members in the 2019 Lok Sabha and 443 (82 percent) members in the 2014 Lok Sabha were crorepatis. The trend of increase in crorepatis in the lower house of Parliament has been seen since 2009, when 315 (58 percent) members were crorepatis.
How many candidates of which party are crorepati
According to the analysis, 227 (95 per cent) out of 240 winning candidates of the BJP, 92 (93 per cent) out of 99 of the Congress, 21 (95 per cent) out of 22 of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (Dravidian), 27 (93 per cent) out of 29 of the Trinamool Congress and 34 (92 per cent) out of 37 candidates of the Samajwadi Party have declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore. All three winning candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), all 12 of the Janata Dal (United) and all 16 of the TDP are crorepatis, according to the ADR data.
Chances of victory of crorepati candidates
ADR has also analyzed the chances of victory of candidates based on their financial background. According to this, the chances of a crorepati candidate winning the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are 19.6 percent, while for candidates with assets less than one crore, this probability is only 0.7 percent.
How much property do the winning candidates have?
ADR has also analysed the distribution of assets among the winning members. According to the data, 42 per cent candidates have assets worth Rs 10 crore or more. 19 per cent candidates have assets between Rs 5 to 10 crore while 32 per cent candidates have assets between Rs 1 to 5 crore. According to the data, only one per cent of the new members have assets less than Rs 20 lakh.
Difference in wealth even within the parties
There is a huge difference in the assets of the winners even within the parties. For example, BJP candidate Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato, elected from Purulia seat in West Bengal, has declared his assets to be just Rs 5 lakh. Similarly, Mitali Bag, who won from Arambagh on a Trinamool ticket, has declared her assets to be Rs 7 lakh. Priya Saroj, who won from Machhlishahr seat in Uttar Pradesh on a SP ticket, has declared her assets to be Rs 11 lakh. In terms of liabilities too, TDP’s Pemmasani is on top; he has liabilities of Rs 1,038 crore. (input language)
