WHO Alert to Another Pandemic: The scene of devastation caused by corona is still present in our hearts and minds. On top of that, there are many dangerous signals which increase the fear even more. The World Health Organization has released a list of 30 such dangerous viruses and bacteria which can take the form of an epidemic in the coming times. In a report published on July 30, WHO has said that scientists have analyzed 30 such pathogenic microorganisms which can create an emergency situation for the health sector around the world and it can also take the form of an epidemic. Scientists have made this estimate on the basis of many evidences. These pathogens are very dangerous and spread rapidly and can infect people rapidly. The worrying thing is that vaccines are available for very few of these viruses. Pathogens mean microorganisms that spread disease.
The risk of these diseases
According to TOI, the Nature Journal report states that in 2017 and 2018, WHO discovered dozens of such pathogens. For this, more than 200 scientists analyzed these pathogens for two years. 1652 pathogens were identified among them. Most of these were viruses while some were bacteria as well. Out of these pathogens, 30 were identified which are ready to spread the epidemic. That is, these viruses or bacteria have the potential to spread the epidemic. Out of these 30 pathogens with potential epidemic potential, viruses like influenza A virus, dengue virus and monkeypox are new. Recently, several strains of influenza A virus were found in America, of which subtype H5 had spread the epidemic in animals. This list also includes 5 new strains of bacteria which are responsible for spreading cholera, plague, dysentery, diarrhea and pneumonia. Recently, the Nipah virus found in India has also been included in this list.
Danger in Southeast Asia too
According to the Nature report, WHO has also identified some prototype pathogens which can prove to be model species for scientific studies and on this basis vaccine can be developed. According to the report, the pathogens that are going to prove to be most dangerous in South East Asia include Vibrio cholera 0139, Shigella distriti serotype 1, Henipavirus Nipahense, Benderavirus Dabinse, Orthoflavivirus Dengue and Jikanese and Alphavirus Chikungunya.
Research to Prepare for the Future
WHO has said that we are not only doing research on the pathogens capable of spreading a pandemic but also on all kinds of potential pathogens so that when the challenging times come, we can deal with them strongly and stop their spread. Public health can also be strengthened at the international level against the unknown threat of Pathogen X and awareness can be spread among the people. Pathogen X is known as the bacteria that can spread the pandemic in the future.
