People are very angry about the rape and murder of a female doctor in a government hospital in Kolkata. Junior doctors from many hospitals in the state protested and took out a procession. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) had demanded action against the culprits within 48 hours. As a result of these pressures, the police also immediately swung into action and arrested the main accused in the case, Sanjay Roy. According to the police, an important clue was useful in catching Sanjay and that was his Bluetooth headphone which he had left at the crime scene.
Let us tell you that the half-naked body of a female PGT doctor was found in the seminar hall of Kolkata’s government RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Friday morning. A second-year student of the Department of Chest Diseases was on duty when she was allegedly raped and murdered inside the hospital. Her body was found lying on a blood-soaked mattress. There was blood flowing from both her eyes and mouth. The initial postmortem report states that the female doctor was sexually assaulted.

Soon after the hospital administration reported the incident, Kolkata Police reached the spot to investigate the case. The police started checking the CCTV cameras installed in the hospital and made a list of some suspects based on the footage. Police sources said that they found a Bluetooth headphone lying at the scene. In the CCTV footage, Sanjay Roy was seen roaming around suspiciously near the seminar hall where the murder took place. He was also seen leaving the hospital in the early hours of Friday.

Later, the police called all the suspects to the hospital for further interrogation. During the interrogation, the police confiscated the mobile phones of all the suspects. After the interrogation, a police officer tried to connect the seized Bluetooth headphones to the mobile phones of each suspect. Sanjay Roy’s phone immediately connected to it. With this, the police’s suspicion was confirmed and they immediately arrested Sanjay.
Upon rigorous questioning by the police team, Sanjay broke down and confessed to the crime. Police officials also claimed that Sanjay initially gave different statements during the interrogation. A police official told news agency PTI, “Now, we are trying to find out who else was with him or if someone else was with him.” He said that the police may also get him medically examined.
There is huge outrage in the medical fraternity over this incident. Junior doctors in various hospitals of West Bengal protested and took out processions. They demanded strict punishment for those involved in the case. Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that her government will seek death penalty for the accused. Mamata Banerjee also said that she has asked the officials to ensure that the case is heard in a fast track court.
