Wayanad. Kerala Police on Friday registered a case of fraud against a person selling tea. He is accused of causing harm to the lottery system run by the state government. Police said that the action was taken after receiving a complaint from the State Lottery Department. This action has been taken against tea businessman Bobby Chemmanur.
The Lottery Department of the Kerala Government has alleged that Bobby Chemmanur expanded his business by issuing prize coupons on the lines of lottery, but due to this, the lottery business of the government has been adversely affected. The department alleged that Bobby first increased the price a lot and then sold his tea packets without any transparent rules, due to which the government suffered huge loss.
Wayanad Meppadi Police has registered a case against them. According to the FIR lodged on the basis of a complaint lodged by the Assistant District Lottery Officer of Wayanad, Chemmanur has made huge profits through this scheme.
Chemmanur has been charged under Indian Penal Code sections 420 (fraudulently and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 294-A (keeping office or place for illegal lottery) and various sections of the Lotteries (Regulation) Act. . A phone call seeking his reaction remained unanswered.
It is noteworthy that Bobby Chemmanur is the same person who had organized the Boche Tea Lucky Draw Ticket on April 15 to save Abdul Rahim, a native of Kozhikode Feroke, who was on death row in Saudi Arabia. He took out a foot march from Kochi to Trivandrum to collect donations. During this period he had collected Rs 18 crore. (PTI input)
