Patients suffering from serious diseases like liver failure are reaching All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi almost every day. These include not only adults but also small children who are suffering from acute or chronic liver disease. According to doctors, the causes of hepatitis B or C in adults are different, but in small children, both these diseases are often transmitted from the mother. It is seen that it is very common for this disease to reach the child from a mother suffering from any type of hepatitis during pregnancy.
Experts from the Gastroenterology Department of AIIMS say that according to WHO data, around 5 crore people in India are suffering from Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C. However, this disease does not develop suddenly. It first becomes an infection and then develops over many years and takes the form of a disease which either does not get cured completely or which requires a long treatment. However, this serious disease can be prevented in advance by getting just two very cheap tests done.

How hepatitis spreads
Hepatitis A and E – from contaminated or dirty water
. Hepatitis C – from pregnant mother to child
. Hepatitis B – transmitted through blood, needles or unsafe sexual practices
Hepatitis B and C are more dangerous
Dr. Pramod Garg, HOD, Gastroenterology Department, AIIMS It is said that out of all the types of hepatitis, B and C are more dangerous, while the infection rate of A and E is higher. B and C are also bad because there is no permanent cure for Hep-B. On the other hand, Hepatitis C enters the child from the pregnant mother and then causes serious liver diseases in the child.
Hepatitis B is never cured
Dr. Shalimar, Professor in the Department of Gastroenterology and Human Nutrition, AIIMS It is said that hepatitis B is never completely cured. Once this disease enters the liver, it remains for life. Although it can be controlled through medicines, it cannot be cured completely. Therefore, it is important to focus on its prevention. At the same time, long-term treatment is required for hepatitis C as well.
Get these two cheap tests done for protection
Dr. Shalimar says that in India, vaccine for hepatitis B is given in the government vaccination program, but for hepatitis C, vaccination can be done only in private, and people do not get it. In such a situation, prevention from both these diseases is very important. If the disease is detected at the stage of infection itself, then the disease can be prevented. For this, a person must get these two tests done for Rs 100 at least once in his life. These are antigen test for hepatitis B and antibody test for hepatitis C.
Pregnant women should pay special attention
Dr. Shalimar says that pregnant women can also get these tests done by talking to their doctor. These are done for just Rs 100 and it is known whether the mother has hepatitis or not, in such a case the baby in the womb can be saved.
just have to take one tablet
Professor Dr. Shalimar of the Gastroenterology and Human Nutrition Department of AIIMS says that to prevent hepatitis disease from being transmitted from mother to child, one has to take only one tablet daily. This tablet prevents the virus from being transmitted from mother to child and the mother’s disease also remains under control. By doing this, not only can this infection be prevented from spreading, but this chain of disease can also be broken. The treatment for hepatitis C, which is transmitted from mother to child, is 12 weeks i.e. 3 months. The disease is completely cured in this continuous treatment.
