A unique record was made in the India vs Sri Lanka ODI series
The last match of the three-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka was played on 7 June at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. In this match, once again the dominance of the spin bowlers of the Sri Lankan team was seen in which they played an important role in restricting the Indian team’s innings to a score of just 138 runs while chasing a target of 249 runs. The Sri Lankan team was also successful in defeating India in a bilateral ODI series after 27 years. At the same time, a unique record was also made in this series in which for the first time in a bilateral ODI series, more than 15 players have been out LBW against spin bowlers.
Sri Lankan spinners took the most wickets
The three-match ODI series saw complete dominance of spin bowlers in which Jeffrey Vandersay took 8 wickets for Sri Lanka while Dunith Vellalaage took 7 wickets. A unique record was also made during this series in which for the first time in a bilateral ODI series, 18 players returned to the pavilion after being out LBW. Out of this, the spin bowlers of the Sri Lankan team have sent a total of 14 Indian players to the pavilion by getting them out LBW, while from India’s side only spinners have been able to take only 3 LBW wickets. Earlier in the year 2018, in the ODI series between UAE and Zimbabwe, a total of 13 players were out LBW against spin bowlers.
