Washington: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers are not shying away from putting the country’s branch at stake regarding Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in the Delhi liquor scam case. Despite it being an internal matter of the country, AAP workers protested in countries like America, Britain, Australia, Canada and Ireland. AAP workers also reached the Indian Embassy offices in these countries and protested against the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal there too. Whereas Indian embassies are aimed at Indians living abroad and solving international affairs. But AAP workers did this in the hope of garnering sympathy, forcibly drawing the attention of other countries to the country’s internal matter at the international level and getting them to intervene in the matter.
Let us tell you that before this, countries like America and Germany had tried to intervene in the case of Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest, which was strongly opposed by India. Now AAP members and supporters demonstrated at Indian embassies with a one-day hunger strike in different countries to show solidarity with party chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has been arrested in an alleged money laundering case. The Enforcement Directorate had arrested Kejriwal on March 21, hours after the High Court refused to grant him protection from punitive action by the anti-money laundering agency. AAP activists in the US, Canada, Britain, Ireland and Australia gathered in front of Indian embassies and popular places on Monday to protest against Kejriwal’s arrest and call for his immediate release, a media release said.
AAP workers said on foreign soil that India’s democracy is in danger.
AAP workers said that India’s democracy is in danger while protesting on foreign soil. Jaswant Reddy, AAP member in Los Angeles, said, “Arvind Kejriwal is a symbol of hope for millions of Indians who are fighting for a more just and equitable society. His arrest is an attack on democracy and the right to dissent. We will not remain silent.” AAP volunteers demonstrated in front of the Indian Embassy in Washington DC. Apart from this, AAP members and supporters in New York, Boston, San Francisco, Dallas, Los Angeles, Toronto, Vancouver, London, Dublin, Berlin, Oslo and Melbourne protested against “threats to democracy in India and the plight of opposition leaders”. To draw attention to this, a one-day hunger strike was conducted at major places.
AAP said opposition leaders are being harassed
“We stand in solidarity with Arvind Kejriwal and all those who are fighting for justice and democracy in India,” AAP worker Parveen Khard said in London. Party national secretary Pankaj Gupta said. People across the world are fasting today to show solidarity with our leader Arvind Kejriwal and send a clear message against the unjust arrest and harassment of opposition leaders in India. AAP members also demanded the immediate release of other opposition leaders including Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. AAP worker Kamaljeet Sindhu from Toronto, Canada said, “The harassment of opposition parties should be stopped immediately and it should be ensured that the Lok Sabha elections are held in a free and fair manner.” (Language)
