New Delhi: The rising temperature in the country’s capital Delhi has broken records. Najafgarh was the hottest place in the country today, the mercury here reached 47.4 degrees Celsius. Due to increasing heat the demand for electricity has increased in the city. On Thursday, electricity demand and heat broke last year’s record. Today the demand for electricity in Delhi has increased to 6,800 MW, the situation is such that even people’s ACs have started responding.
Let us tell you that last year in 2023, there was no heat wave till May 16, in the same year the highest temperature was recorded at 43.7 degrees Celsius. The temperature is continuously increasing in Delhi, so people have only AC and cooler to escape from the scorching heat. Where on Friday the electricity demand has increased to 6800 MW, whereas on May 23 last year the demand for electricity was 2012 MW.
The Meteorological Department issued an orange alert in the city on Friday and has expressed the possibility of heat wave in some parts in the next two days. According to IMD data, the temperature had crossed 45 degrees Celsius at eight places in Delhi, 47.4 degrees Celsius in Najafgarh, 46.2 degrees Celsius in Ayanagar, 45.1 degrees Celsius in Palam, 46.5 degrees Celsius in Mungeshpur, 45.8 degrees Celsius in Pritampura. , Pusa recorded 45.9 degrees Celsius.
IMD said that the last hottest day in Delhi was recorded on May 16 with 42.5 degrees Celsius. Releasing the forecast for Saturday, the Meteorological Department said that the wind will blow at a speed of 25 to 35 km per hour during the day, while the sky is likely to remain clear, due to which there will be a possibility of rain from the sun. Heatwave conditions will persist at some places. The maximum and minimum temperatures in the next two days are likely to be around 44 and 26 degrees Celsius respectively.
As the mercury rises, the demand for electricity in Delhi has also increased. State Load Dispatch Center (SLDC) said that the demand for electricity in Delhi on Thursday was 6,780 MW at 3.26 pm. At the same time, the maximum demand had reached 6,834 MW at 11.10 pm, however, at 3.28 pm on Friday afternoon, a decline was seen in the demand of electricity, which was 6,703 MW. Distribution companies have estimated that the maximum demand for electricity in Delhi will cross 8,000 MW.
