Adani Group It will invest around Rs 2 lakh crore by 2030 to create 40,000 MW renewable energy production capacity. The group has set a target of bringing down carbon emissions to net zero level across all its companies by 2050 and the focus on renewable energy is a step in that direction. The group, which has various business sectors, currently has more than 10,000 MW of power generation capacity from renewable sources including solar and wind energy. The group is focusing on adding 6,000 to 7,000-megawatt capacity every year to reach 50,000 MW capacity by 2030.
Target of investment of 2 lakh crores by 2030
Adani Green Energy Ltd. (AGEL) Executive Director Sagar Adani told reporters, “At the rate of Rs 5 crore per megawatt, the investment could be in the range of Rs 2 lakh crore by 2030.” The company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amit Singh said that the company will also create a pump storage capacity of 5,000 megawatt capacity keeping in mind the maximum power demand during the night. The reason for this is that sunlight is not available at night and the wind intensity is not so much that the windmill can be turned on to generate electricity. Renewable energy capacity along with carbon credits and some other measures will help the group achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Target to add 6000 MW capacity this year
Singh said Adani Green Energy has added 2,800 MW capacity in the last financial year 2023-24. This is 15 percent of the total generation capacity created in the country during the year. He said, “Our target this year is 6,000 MW.” Adani said that this much or more capacity is likely to be added every year in the coming time. 80 percent of the total 50,000 MW capacity will come from solar and the rest from wind energy. The group is also setting up factories to make solar panels and wafers used in windmills. Singh said the group is now considering building three megawatt windmills for areas with low wind speed. The group currently makes wind turbines of 5.2 MW capacity, which is suitable for high potential areas like Khavda in Gujarat.
