Panipat. The CIA 3 police team has arrested the accused of snatching a woman’s mangalsutra in a pizza shop in Panipat city of Haryana. This incident took place in Pizza Gallery located in Tehsil Camp of Panipat. The woman was sitting with her friends and the accused snatched the mangalsutra from her neck. Now the police arrested the accused from near Siwah bus stand on Monday evening. The accused was identified as Kuldeep resident Ashok Vihar Colony.
CIA 3 in-charge Inspector Deepak said that Jyoti, wife of Dheeraj, resident of Ghaziabad, UP, had told the police in her complaint that she had been at her maternal home in Ashok Vihar Colony for 3/4 days. On June 8, at around 4 pm, she had come to Pizza Gallery in Tehsil Camp with her friends Preeti, Neha and Sheela to eat pizza. All of them were sitting inside the pizza shop.
The woman said that during this time a suspicious young man was roaming around the shop wearing a helmet on his head. As soon as he got the chance, the young man broke the gold chain and pendant from her neck and fled on his bike. On Jyothi’s complaint, the police registered a case in the police station Tehsil Camp and started efforts to identify and arrest the accused.
Arrested near Siwah bus stand
Inspector Deepak said that while taking action under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Ajit Singh Shekhawat, the CIA 3 police team had activated all its sources along with scanning CCTV footage at various places. The police team arrested the accused near the Siwah bus stand on the basis of a secret information received late on Monday evening. During interrogation, the accused identified himself as Kuldeep son of Baijnath, resident of Ashok Vihar Colony and confessed to committing the above mentioned incident of chain snatching.
The debt had increased to around Rs 2.50 lakh
Inspector Deepak said that during interrogation, the accused told the police that he has been playing online gambling for a long time. After losing a lot of money in gambling, he had a debt of about 2.50 lakh rupees. To pay off the debt, the accused committed the above incident of chain snatching. The accused was trying to escape to Haridwar on Monday. Before that, the police caught him. To recover the mangalsutra and the bike used in the crime, the police presented the accused in the court, from where he has been sent on 2-day police remand.
