Kabul, July 18 (IANS)| The Defense Ministry said on Sunday that at least 53 Taliban militants were killed and 38 others were injured in multiple airstrikes and fierce fighting in Afghanistan in the past 24 hours. In Kapisa province, 18 militants were killed after the Afghan Air Force (AAF) carried out airstrikes in Tagab and Nijrab districts in support of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF), Xinhua news agency quoted a ministry statement as saying. and 24 were injured.
Three divisional commanders of the Taliban were also among the slain militants, the statement said. Meanwhile, 20 Taliban militants were killed and eight others were injured during a clean-up operation by the ANDSF on the outskirts of Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province, according to the statement. In Balkh province, 15 Taliban militants were killed and six others injured in an airstrike by the AAF in Kaldar district.
