New Delhi. In the first Super-8 match of the T20 World Cup 2024, South Africa won by 18 runs over the USA. With this, the team led by Aiden Markram has taken two points. The hero of the victory was Quinton de Kock, who gave the African team a strong start by scoring 74 runs in 40 balls. Andris Gaus also tried to win the match for the team by playing a half-century innings from America. However, he missed despite taking his team very close.
Batting first, South African team scored 194 runs at the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. While chasing the target, the American team could only score 176/6 runs. The American team did not have a good start. The team lost the wickets of its three opening batsmen at just 56 runs. Steven Taylor scored 24 runs in 14 balls. After this, the next two wickets fell in quick succession. Nitish Kumar scored eight runs in six balls and captain Aaron Jones was out at zero after playing five balls. By the time the score reached 76, half of the American team had returned to the dugout. Corey Anderson could score only 12 runs in 12 balls. Shayan Jahangir could contribute only three runs.

The US team won the toss and decided to field first. Their start was not very good. Saurabh Netravalkar got Reeza Hendricks caught out on a personal score of just 11 runs. After this, captain Aiden Markram, who came in as the new batsman to support Quinton de Kock, made a big partnership. Together, the two took the African team’s score to 64 runs in just six overs. Even after this, they did not let the pace of runs slow down. Together, the two added 110 runs.
Harmeet Singh brought America back into the match. He dismissed Quinton de Kock and David Miller on two back to back balls. After losing three wickets for 126 runs, Markram and Heinrich Klassen took the responsibility of scoring runs for the South African team. Markram played an innings of 42 runs in 32 balls. He was dismissed by Saurabh Netravalkar. Klassen scored an unbeaten 36 runs in 22 balls. On the same lines, Tristan Stubbs scored an unbeaten 20 runs in 16 balls.
