New Delhi. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh openly expressed his opinion on many issues in an exclusive interview given to Network 18’s Group Editor-in-Chief Rahul Joshi. During this, he was asked a question regarding the removal of AFSPA (Armed Forces Special Powers Act) from Kashmir. The Defense Minister said in clear words that AFSPA can be removed from Kashmir. Such an environment has been created in the valley, but only the Home Ministry will take the final decision on this. He was also asked about the news published in the British media, in which India claimed to have entered Pakistan and killed terrorists. On this, Rajnath Singh said that whoever spreads terror in our country will be given a befitting reply. And if any terrorist goes to Pakistan after carrying out terrorist incidents in the country, then we will chase him and kill him there.
Under AFSPA, security forces are given special powers. Generally, in disturbed areas, armed forces are given special powers to search and arrest, so that law and order can be maintained. When Rajnath Singh was asked a question about removing AFSPA from Kashmir, he said, ‘Now the time has come when a decision can be taken to remove it (AFSPA). Only the Home Ministry will take a decision on this after the report comes in this regard. I say that such circumstances have arisen in Kashmir that AFSPA can be removed from there, but whatever decision has to be taken on this, only the Home Ministry will take it.
Amit Shah on AFSPA
Home Minister Amit Shah had also said a big thing on AFSPA in an interview given a few days ago. He had said that we are also considering removing AFSPA. Let us tell you that the Central Government had decided to impose AFSPA in Jammu and Kashmir in the year 1990. The Center believed that most parts of Jammu and Kashmir are disturbed, in such a situation it is necessary to give more powers and authority to the security forces, so that peace can be maintained in the region.
