The people of India had to face record level of heat in March this year. According to the data of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), March was the hottest month in the country since 1901, during which the maximum temperature was 1.86 degrees Celsius above normal. The report also states that the average rainfall across the country was also 71% less than the average for the previous month.
According to the report, the average temperature in the country in March was 33.10 degrees Celsius, which is 1.86 degrees Celsius above normal. The average minimum temperature during this period was recorded at 20.24 degree Celsius. The highest temperature was recorded in the north-west region, which was 3.91 degrees Celsius above normal. At the same time, March was 1.62 degree Celsius warmer than normal in the central area.
India received an average of 8.9 mm of rainfall in March, which is 71 per cent less than the Long Period Average (LPA) of 30.4 mm. In March 1909 received 7.2 mm and 1908 8.7 mm. In such a situation, last month this year saw the third lowest rainfall since 1901.
Meteorologists have warned that the intensity of heatwave will increase in the coming years. In the last few years, there have been more days when it has not rained. In some cases it has rained heavily and the heat has also increased.
