Chinese troops conducting military exercises in Taiwan.
Taipei: In response to the inauguration speech of the new President of Taiwan, China has increased the tension of Lai Ching Te by conducting military exercises in the surrounding area. China has already said many times that it considers Taiwan as its part and if military use is required to annex it, it can do that. After the change of power in Taiwan, China’s display of military power and exercises are being considered a part of the same strategy. In such a situation, America has now come forward to help Taiwan.
A delegation of US lawmakers met the new leader on Monday and expressed their support. Representative Andy Barr, co-chairman of the Taiwan Caucus in the US Congress, said that the US is fully committed to supporting Taiwan’s military, diplomacy and economy. Addressing reporters after the US delegation met Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te, the representative from Kentucky said, “America wants to maintain the status quo and peace in Taiwan and there should be no doubt about this in America, Taiwan or anywhere in the world.”
China is taking many aggressive actions against Taiwan
Taiwan’s new Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung had invited the US delegation to meet to show a sign of solidarity at this critical time, noting the recent military exercises conducted by China. The delegation included representatives from both Republican and Democratic parties. The delegation was led by Representative Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The Republican Party’s Texas representative was banned by China after his visit to Taiwan in April last year. (AP)
