New Delhi. After Delhi Police, now CBI has also taken the case of Newsclick website under its ambit. Some time ago, CBI has raided the office of Newsclick and the house of its editor Praveer Purkayastha. Purkayastha was recently arrested by Delhi Police under UAPA and other sections. The police have accused Praveer Purkayastha of running news against India by taking funding from China. Now it is being told that CBI is investigating the case of violation of Foreign Contribution Act i.e. FCRA in Newsclick. This may increase problems for Praveer Purkayastha and Newsclick.

Quoting an official, Amar Ujala newspaper has said that NewsClick received funds from abroad in violation of FCRA. Delhi Police has accused Purkayastha of receiving foreign funding through Neville Roy Singham, associated with the Communist Party of China. This was denied by Newsclick and Purkayastha. Before Delhi Police, ED had also raided Newsclick. ED had alleged that Newsclick received funds worth Rs 38 crore from abroad. After this, The New York Times newspaper published this information in the news and then the name of Neville Roy Singham also appeared.
On August 22 this year, Delhi High Court had issued a notice to Praveer Purkayastha on the petition of EOW of Delhi Police in the funding case, but had asked the police not to arrest Purkayastha. After this, the Special Cell of Delhi Police had recently raided Newsclick, its journalists and Praveer Purkayastha. Apart from Praveer, Newsclick’s HR head Amit Chakraborty has been arrested. Whom the court sent to jail for 10 days on Tuesday.
