monday After the massive fall on 2018, the Indian stock market witnessed huge fluctuations today. Heavy buying was seen in the market in the early trade, due to which both Sensex and Nifty jumped a lot. But by the end of the session, the market lost all its gains and closed with a decline. The Bombay Stock Exchange index Sensex opened today with a gain of 222 points at 78,981.97. During trading, it reached a maximum of 79,852.08 points. Later there was selling and it closed at 78,593, down 166 points. On the other hand, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty closed today at 23,992, down 0.26 percent or 63 points. At the time of market closing, out of 50 Nifty stocks, 21 stocks were in the green and 29 stocks were in the red. Investors are being cautious due to concerns about economic slowdown in the US and increasing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
These stocks fell
The biggest losers in the Nifty pack today were HDFC Life at 4.2%, SBI Life at 2.43%, BPCL at 1.84%, Shriram Finance at 1.71% and SBI at 1.47%. Apart from this, the biggest gainers were Britannia at 2.81%, JSW Steel at 2.35%, Tech Mahindra at 1.74%, Larsen & Toubro at 1.70%, HUL at 1.54%.
Status of sectoral indices
Talking about sectoral indices, the biggest decline today was recorded in Nifty Financial Services 25/50 by 1.42 percent. Apart from this, Nifty Bank fell by 0.69 percent, Nifty Auto by 0.75 percent, Nifty Pharma by 0.09 percent, Nifty PSU Bank by 1.26 percent, Nifty Private Bank by 0.60 percent, Nifty Healthcare Index by 0.18 percent, Nifty Consumer Durables by 0.71 percent, Nifty Oil and Gas by 0.48 percent, Nifty Midsmall Healthcare by 0.10 percent. Apart from this, Nifty Realty rose by 0.84 percent, Nifty Metal by 0.30 percent, Nifty Media by 0.15 percent, Nifty IT by 0.49 percent and Nifty FMCG by 0.09 percent.
