Dubai: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has announced the name of the acting President after the death of President Ibrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash. Khamenei has appointed Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Mokhbar as the country’s acting president. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made the announcement while issuing a message of condolence on Sunday following Raisi’s death.
Let us tell you that President Ibrahim Raisi died in a helicopter accident. The helicopter carrying him crashed on Sunday but the President’s death was confirmed on Monday after the helicopter’s debris was found. In this accident, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdullahian and other people aboard the helicopter also died. Khamenei also announced five days of mourning in the message. (AP)
Acting President will be able to stay only for 50 days
According to the Constitution of Iran, in the event of the death of the President, it is necessary to hold elections within 50 days. In such a situation, Mohammad Mokhbar, who was made acting President, will be able to remain in this post only for 50 days. For these 50 days, he will hold the chair of President Ibrahim Raisi and complete the remaining work.
Who is Mohammad Mokhbar Dejfuli?
When Ibrahim Raisi took over as President in the year 2021, he named Mohammad Mokhbar as his first Vice President. Mohammad Mokhbar has also led the foundation built on the orders of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for years. Let us tell you that in the year 2007, Mokhbar was appointed to this post by Ayatollah Khamenei. Let us tell you that after Ibrahim Raisi, Mohammad Mokhbar is known as the second biggest leader in the country. He is also the Vice President of Iran.
