Actually, the police has arrested a 27-year-old salesman for stealing jewelery worth Rs 1.05 crore from a shop in Thane. An official gave this information on Sunday. Senior Inspector of Naupada Police Station, Abhay Mahajan said that the accused Rahul Jayantilal Mehta was arrested from Mira Road area on March 26 when he had gone to meet his girlfriend.

Theft for a life of luxury
Police said that he used to steal to live a life of luxury. The officer said that the accused had committed the theft in a jewelery shop located in Talav Pali area. On the basis of the complaint given by the shop owner on March 25, an FIR was registered against him under section 408 of the Indian Penal Code (criminal breach of trust by a clerk or servant).

Police said that Mehta used to handle sales work at the shop. During this period, between November 2023 and March 2024, he allegedly made away with 70 pieces of jewellery, worth approximately Rs 1,05,55,766. The accused was not coming to work since March 8, 2024 and his wife had also lodged a complaint of his missing on March 15. According to the officer, he kept hiding in Mumbai, Indore of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and other places to avoid police arrest.
Caught while trying to meet his girlfriend
Police received information that he was going to come here on March 26 to meet his girlfriend in Mira Road area. The officer said that when the accused reached there, the police arrested him. During interrogation, the accused told the police that he spent the stolen money for an expensive lifestyle. He used to go to pubs and five star hotels. Police said that till now jewelery worth Rs 62.10 lakh has been recovered from the accused.
