On coming to power in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party had promised 300 units of electricity free to every household. But the people of Punjab will have to wait for a month for this. The scheme of 300 units of free electricity is currently under consideration and to give the final touch to its modalities, Arvind Kejriwal has called Bhagwant Mann to Delhi. Earlier, Arvind Kejriwal had also spoken to the bureaucrats of Punjab and the officials concerned on this issue. After this, Mann has now been called, due to which it is believed that there are some technical problems in implementing the scheme, to which Arvind Kejriwal has held meetings.
Officials attached to Arvind Kejriwal’s office said that the scheme of 300 units of free electricity in Punjab will be announced soon. Earlier today at 3 pm, Bhagwant Mann is going to reach Arvind Kejriwal’s house and both the leaders will meet. A senior official in Kejriwal’s office said, “It has been almost a month since the AAP government was formed in Punjab. Kejriwal is clear that the people of Punjab should get the benefit of free electricity soon and this will be announced soon. At present, it is being discussed that how the electricity department of Punjab will bear its expenses and how its misuse will be stopped.
Bhagwant Mann took oath as CM on March 16. Let us tell you that the most important of the promises made by the Aam Aadmi Party regarding the elections was free electricity. In June last year, Arvind Kejriwal had given AAP’s first guarantee and said that we will work to provide free electricity to the people as soon as they come to power. Now the Aam Aadmi Party has formed the government with full majority in Punjab and now people are waiting for the fulfillment of this promise. Significantly, out of 117 seats in the state, AAP has won a total of 92 seats, which is an extraordinary majority.
It is worth noting that there is already a scheme of free electricity for the poor in Punjab, which was started by the Congress government in 2016. At present, in Punjab, people belonging to Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and families living below the poverty line are getting 200 units of electricity free of cost.
