Along with onion, tomato is also on the path of becoming expensive. For the past few days, a continuous upward trend is being seen in the retail prices of tomato. In many parts of the country, the price of tomato has almost doubled in the last 15 days. It is believed that its price will remain upward for at least the next 20 days. The main reason for this is the shortage of supply due to the reduction in the area designated for its cultivation. In the retail market of Bengaluru and surrounding areas, prices have now reached between Rs 70 to Rs 80 per kg.
Prices are higher in South Indian states
The effect of severe heat is visible on tomatoes. There is a sharp increase in the retail prices of tomatoes in Maharashtra and South Indian states – Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. On June 19, the price of one kg of tomato on the e-commerce platform Big Basket is Rs 60. The retail price of tomato in Delhi-NCR is between Rs 30-70. It is believed that in the coming days, tomato prices will also increase in North India.
