Puja Khedkar: After the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) cancelled the disability certificate of trainee IAS Pooja Khedkar, disability certificates of some probationers and serving officers are being scrutinised. According to sources, the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) is scrutinising the medical certificates of six other civil servants whose certificates were flagged on social media platforms. Of these six civil servants, five are from the IAS and one from the IRS.
This comes after Khedkar’s candidature was cancelled as the UPSC found the allegations against him of violating the examination rules and guidelines to be true. The Central Government’s Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said in a statement that the UPSC has carefully examined the available records and found him guilty of acting in violation of the provisions of the CSE-2022 Rules. His provisional candidature for CSE-2022 has been cancelled and he has also been permanently barred from all future examinations/selections of UPSC.
Meanwhile, a Delhi court on Thursday rejected the anticipatory bail plea filed by Khedkar, an accused in a cheating and forgery case. The court ordered that the investigating agency needs to expand the scope of the investigation. The agency is directed to trace the candidates recommended in the recent past who have availed benefits beyond the permissible age limit under the OBC quota and who have availed the benefit of persons with benchmark disabilities despite not being entitled to it.
The UPSC had sent a show cause notice to Pooja Khedkar for making attempts beyond the permissible limit prescribed in the examination rules by misrepresenting her identity. According to experts, Pooja Khedkar has created trouble for herself by refusing to present her case before the commission. According to the UPSC, she had first sought time from July 25 to August 4. The commission considered her request and gave her time till 3.30 pm on July 30, making it clear that this was her last chance.
The DoPT statement said that despite the extension of time given to her, she failed to submit her explanation within the stipulated time. Pooja had challenged the UPSC’s decision on her candidature before the Central Administrative Tribunal in 2023. If she challenges the UPSC’s decision of 2024 again before CAT, the commission may argue that she was given ample opportunities to present her case but she chose not to appear.
