After Railways and Army, Waqf Board has most land in India: After Railways and Army, Waqf Board has most land in India, property has doubled in 15 years

New Delhi. There is a ruckus over the amendment proposal related to the Waqf Board Act being brought by the central government. The government is going to investigate the properties related to Waqf by curtailing the unlimited rights of the Waqf Board. There is a controversy about this. Actually, the reason for the controversy is that the Waqf Board does not have small properties. After the Railways and the Army, the Waqf Board has the most land in the country. Not only this, the property of the Waqf Board has doubled in the last 15 years. At present, the Waqf Boards have property spread over about 9 lakh 40 thousand acres. In this property, there are about 8 lakh 72 thousand 321 immovable properties while there are 16 thousand 713 movable properties. The value of these movable and immovable properties is being said to be around Rs 1.2 lakh crore. Not only this, the Waqf Board has the most land in UP.

What is Waqf property?

Waqf is the property that the followers of Islam donate in the name of their religion. It includes both movable and immovable properties. ‘Waqf’ is derived from the Arabic word ‘Wakufa’. In Hindi, ‘Wakufa’ means to stay.
