After Swiggy and Zomato, now Flipkart has also given a big shock to the users, started platform charge, buyers’ pockets will be affected

August 23, 2024

New Delhi. After Swiggy and Zomato, now e-commerce platform Flipkart has also imposed a new charge on its users. Flipkart has started charging a platform charge of Rs 3 on every purchase made on its platform from August 17. This charge will be applicable to all Flipkart users, whether they are standard or plus members. However, this charge will not be charged on orders above Rs 10,000. Flipkart has said that this charge is being taken to operate the online shopping platform more efficiently and to continuously improve it. This charge will not apply to Flipkart’s subsidiary Cleartrip and Grocery. The company says that this small charge will help them improve the platform.

Status of other companies

Before Flipkart, online food delivery platforms Swiggy and Zomato also implemented platform charges, which have recently been increased to Rs 6 per order. Apart from this, companies like Blinkit and Zepto are also charging platform or handling charges ranging from Rs 4 to Rs 10 from users. However, Flipkart’s rival Amazon is currently not charging any kind of platform charge from its users, but it is being speculated that Amazon may also implement this charge in the future.

How effective will the new charge be?

This new charge of Flipkart means that users will have to spend Rs 3 extra on the purchase of any goods less than Rs 10,000. Even though this amount may seem minor, it can have a big impact on the company. Thousands of orders are made on Flipkart every day, and through this small charge the company can get a big profit. After the implementation of this new charge, Flipkart users will have to spend a little extra amount, but the company believes that this will improve the quality and services of their platform.
