The rebellion of the Kerala Congress is now emerging as a big concern in front of the Congress party, which is facing a crushing defeat in the elections of five states. The Rajya Sabha elections are to be held on March 31, and the name of the only candidate from Kerala Congress has not been finalized yet. Amidst this ruckus, Kerala Congress leaders have met Sonia Gandhi.
There has been an uproar over the Rajya Sabha candidature because, one name is that of Krishnan Srinivasan, a close aide of Priyanka Gandhi and Robert Vadra, Krishnan has been the OSD to the former Kerala CM. On the other hand, Kerala Congress wants to send M Liju to Rajya Sabha, he is the leader of Youth Congress.
Amidst this ruckus, Kerala Congress President K Sudhakaran reached Delhi along with party leaders and met Sonia Gandhi and discussed the names of the candidates. After the meeting, Kerala Congress President K Sudhakaran indicated that the race is going to be an even contest between M Liju and Krishnan Srinivasan. Speaking to reporters today, Sudhakaran said, “I have discussed the nomination for the Rajya Sabha seat with Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi ji and party leader Rahul Gandhi. Both want to promote youth. Not only M Liju, but also We are also looking at Krishnan.”
He said, the Kerala Congress unit will decide the names of candidates for the Rajya Sabha seat and send the list to the AICC leadership. The leadership will take the final decision. The names of women leaders will also be considered. Sudhakaran thanked Sonia Gandhi for initiating such talks as it would help the party in the long run.
All problems will be solved soon in Congress
The Kerala Congress President said, “I welcome the G-23 and Shashi Tharoor to attend the meeting (tomorrow). I can assure you that all problems within the party will be resolved soon. I have held such talks.” Thanks to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi for starting it.”
Significantly, three Rajya Sabha seats from Kerala are falling vacant after the retirement of AK Antony of Congress, K Somprasad of CPI(M) and MV Shreyams Kumar of Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD). The opposition Congress is yet to finalize its candidate for the elections to be held on March 31.
