Foreign guns in the hands of terrorists in Kashmir

Two days ago (18 July) the Indian Army killed two foreign terrorists while foiling an infiltration attempt on the Line of Control in Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir. A huge cache of weapons was also recovered from the slain terrorists. Austrian assault rifle (Steyer AUG) was also recovered from the slain terrorists. Security agencies were also surprised after finding Austrian guns with the terrorists. Many questions are also being raised about this foreign gun with the terrorists.

This rifle came to Austria in 1977

The weapons recovered from the terrorists are StG 77 (Sturmgewehr 77) which is the name given by the Austrian Armed Forces. The Austrian country adopted the Steyer AUG in 1977. It is the standard assault rifle issued to the Austrian army. The Steyr Bullpup assault rifle can only be matched by the Israeli-made Tavor assault rifle.

Configured as an open-bolt light machine gun

The Tavor is a gas-operated selective-fire bullpup assault rifle. It is built around a long-stroke piston system. The Steyr AUG is designed as a modular weapon system. It can be quickly configured as an assault rifle, a carbine, a submachine gun, and an open-bolt light machine gun.

Magazine holds 30 rounds

Weapons experts say that Tavor has a semi-automatic mode, burst mode and full-auto mode. Which fires standard 5.56×45 mm ammunition. It is considered more reliable and accurate than the US M4 carbine and Austria’s Steyr. Tavor TAR-21 has a 30-round magazine.

Foreign weapons, challenges for security forces

Let us tell you that there are many challenges before the security forces fighting terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, the weapon systems, anti-armor clothing and other equipment used by the security forces are regularly and constantly reviewed.

These questions are arising

Meanwhile, the discovery of foreign weapons with terrorists has become a matter of greater concern. In such a situation, questions are being raised whether these foreign weapons are being handed over by the Pakistan government to the terrorists to infiltrate the border.
