Supreme Court of India, AI
The shine of AI i.e. Artificial Intelligence has reached the Supreme Court. Soon, AI is going to help in everything from translating judicial documents of the Supreme Court to legal research. Also, many processes of the country’s biggest court will be made easier through this new technology. Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has given this information while giving a written answer to a question asked in the Lok Sabha.
New committee formed
Let us tell you, since February 2023 last year, AI is also being used to write oral arguments in constitutional bench cases. The Union Minister said that a committee has been formed for this, which is headed by a Supreme Court judge. This committee has been formed to get important judgments of the Supreme Court and High Court translated into various Indian languages through AI.
Apart from this, the translation of important decisions of the Supreme Court and High Court in Indian languages is being proactively monitored by the AI Translation Committee of the High Court. At present, e-High Court Report (e-HCR) has been launched for eight High Courts. At the same time, preparations are being made for other High Courts as well.
This Supreme Court-led AI committee has also directed the High Courts to request their respective state governments to translate all central and state laws, rules and regulations into regional languages and make them available on the state websites.
More than 36 thousand judgments were translated
The Union Minister told the Parliament that at present, the work of translating 36,271 Supreme Court judgments into Hindi using AI has been completed by August 5, 2024. At the same time, 17,142 judgments have been translated into 16 other regional languages. However, no separate fund has been allocated for this translation project.
The government is also going to use AI for surveillance. Security agencies are preparing to deploy AI based security systems to monitor the area around the Red Fort on the occasion of this 68th Independence Day. CCTVs with video analytical features have been installed in key areas around the Red Fort.
