Tata Group-owned airline Air India has suspended one of its female pilots for three months after she failed the breath analyzer test before a flight. An Air India official gave this information on Tuesday. The official said the Boeing 787 pilot is a first officer. According to language news, the pilot failed the test when she had to operate a flight from Delhi to Hyderabad.
This incident happened last week
According to the news, the officer said that this incident happened last week. After this incident, the pilot has been removed from flight related work for three months. However, the airline has not commented on this issue. As per the standards of aviation regulator DGCA, every crew member will have to undergo a pre-flight breath test at the first departure airport during the flight duty period. When a crew member tests positive, there are severe penalties depending on whether this has happened before or not.
DGCA had revised the norms
This is applicable for both pre- and post-flight tests. A pilot who fails the pre-flight breath test for the first time will be suspended from flying duties for a period of three months as per the standard. Last year, the DGCA had revised the norms for the process of medical examination of aircrew for alcohol consumption. As per the rules, no crew member shall consume any medicine/formulation or use any substance such as mouthwash/tooth gel or any product containing alcohol.
This may result in a positive breathalyzer test report. Any crew member who is taking such medication must consult the company doctor before resuming flight duties.
