The institute has released a frightening report about human deaths due to air pollution. In a report released on Wednesday, the Health Effects Institute has said that 81 lakh people died in the year 2021 due to air pollution worldwide. The institute has also given frightening information about India.
21 lakh people died in India
According to the report released by the Health Effects Institute, the number of people who lost their lives due to pollution in the year 2021 was up to 21 lakh. The report also states that in 2021, 1,69,400 children under the age of five died in India due to air pollution. According to several reports released, 23 lakh people died in China in the year 2021 due to air pollution.
Pollution is the biggest cause of death in South Asia
Air pollution caused the death of 1,14,100 children in Nigeria, 68,100 in Pakistan, 31,100 in Ethiopia and 19,100 in Bangladesh. The Health Effects Institute report says that air pollution is the biggest cause of death in South Asia. It is followed by high blood pressure, diet and tobacco consumption.
54% of cases are in India and China
According to a report by the Health Effects Institute, the number of deaths due to air pollution in 2021 was higher than estimated for any previous year. Both China and India have a population of more than 1 billion. India has 2.1 million deaths and China has 2.3 million deaths, which together account for 54 percent of the total global deaths.
