Flight tickets are getting expensive for the festival season. Airfares for air travel have increased by 25 percent during the festive season of Diwali and Onam. This has come to light in an analysis. The average one-way ticket price on major domestic routes is 10-15 percent higher for Diwali and 20-25 percent higher for some flights to cities in Kerala for Onam. According to Bhasha news, an analysis done by travel portal ixigo has shown that the average one-way economy class fare for a non-stop flight on the Delhi-Chennai route has increased by 25 percent to Rs 7,618 during the period from October 30 to November 5. This is compared to the fares during the period of November 10-16 last year.

Travel demand is increasing for Diwali

According to the report, for the given comparison period, the ticket price on the Mumbai-Hyderabad route has increased by 21 per cent to Rs 5,162 and on the Delhi-Goa and Delhi-Ahmedabad routes by 19 per cent to Rs 5,999 and Rs 4,930 respectively. The analysis revealed that on some other routes, fares have increased in the range of 1-16 per cent. ixigo group co-CEO Rajnish Kumar said that the travel demand for Diwali is increasing and airfares are higher than last year.

Fares also decreased on these routes

According to the analysis, the average one-way fare on popular routes like Delhi-Chennai, Mumbai-Bengaluru and Delhi-Hyderabad is in the range of Rs 4,000-5,000, showing a year-on-year increase of 10-15 per cent as the festival season approaches. On the other hand, fares on some routes have also declined by 1 per cent to 27 per cent for the given comparative period. The ticket price for a Mumbai-Ahmedabad flight has fallen by 27 per cent to Rs 2,508, while for a Mumbai-Udaipur flight, it has fallen by 25 per cent to Rs 4,890. The analysis showed that fares have fallen by 23 per cent to Rs 3,383 in case of Bengaluru-Hyderabad flight and by 21 per cent to Rs 7,826 for a Mumbai-Jammu flight.

30% increase on Hyderabad-Thiruvananthapuram route

Analysis of airfare trends on select routes for the upcoming festival in Kerala has shown that prices have increased in the range of 1 per cent to 25 per cent on some routes. At the same time, ticket prices have fallen by about 6-35 per cent on some routes. These figures are the average one-way fares for non-stop flights for departures during the period September 6-15 this year, while Onam was celebrated in the period August 20-29, 2023. Fares for Hyderabad-Thiruvananthapuram flight have seen a 30 per cent increase for this comparable period, at Rs 4,102. A similar increase has been seen for Mumbai-Calicut flight, at Rs 4,448.
