The National Green Tribunal has sought factual and action taken report from a joint committee headed by district magistrate and state pollution control board on a petition against illegal mining in five villages of Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. NGT Chairperson Adarsh Kumar Goel was hearing a petition filed by All India Kaimur People’s Front against illegal mining in Bhagwa, Agorkhas, Khewandha, Radia and Korgi villages.
According to the applicant, Poklane machines are being used for mining by the respondent operators. Necessary District Survey Report (DSR) has not been prepared nor has the Environment Clearance (EC) been granted under the Sand Mining Guidelines, 2020 as stated in the EIA Notification, 2006 as well as the Supreme Court Judgment.
Taking cognizance of the complaint, the Green Court said, “We require a factual and actionable report from a joint committee comprising the State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority, State PCB and District Magistrate, Sonbhadra.”
The Green Court, in its March 30 order, said the state PCB would be the nodal agency for coordination and compliance. Directs the panel to meet within two weeks and visit the site. The committee may coordinate with any other department concerned and submit a report within two months after confirmation of the facts.
Further hearing in the matter will be held on July 13.
