Now Aman Sehrawat is just one win away from an Olympic medal. That means if he enters the finals, his gold or silver will be confirmed. He succeeded in winning this match by defeating Albania’s Zelimkhan Abakarov in a spectacular manner.
Zelimkhan did not allow Abakarov to survive
Aman Sehrawat defeated Albania’s Zelimkhan Abakarov badly. He defeated Zelimkhan Abakarov when there was more than two minutes left in the match. He did not let his opponent score even a single point. He took the lead over Abakarov in a very short time. After this, the lead increased to 11.0 in a few seconds. After this, the opponent athlete also took a review, but it did not help. According to the rules, if a wrestler takes a lead of 10 points over the opponent, then the match ends there and then. Therefore, Aman was declared the winner with time remaining.
He had shown his attitude in the first match itself
Earlier, Aman Sehrawat defeated Macedonia’s Vladimir Egorov in the pre-quarterfinals to make it to the quarterfinals. He won the match 10-0 on the basis of technical superiority and defeated the world’s 38th ranked wrestler. Aman Sehrawat is ranked sixth in the world. The start of the earlier match was calm. Meanwhile, as soon as Aman got a chance, he opened his account with a leg attack. As soon as Aman pushed Vladimir out of the ring, the 2-0 lead increased by one more point. After this, Aman did not look back. He was declared the winner on the basis of technical superiority due to another takedown of the opponent.
Hopes alive in India’s wrestling
Aman’s win is a big relief for the whole of India after what happened to Vinesh Phogat on Wednesday. She was supposed to compete for the gold medal against USA’s Sarah Hildebrandt in the final but was disqualified for being just 100 grams overweight in the 49kg category. However, she is still expected to win the silver medal as she has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
