Harroop Kaur is the daughter of a head constable in the Punjab Police, while Nivedita Saini’s father is a school principal. Both belong to Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (AFPI) for Girls, SAS Nagar (Mohali). After successfully passing out from the Air Force Academy, Dundigal (Hyderabad), they have been appointed as flying officers in the Indian Air Force (IAF).

Flying Officer Haroop Kaur will join the Education Branch. She is the daughter of Head Constable Bhagwant Singh in Punjab Police, SAS Nagar (Mohali) district. Flying Officer Nivedita Saini’s father Harinder Singh Saini is the principal of a government school and is from Pathankot district. Flying Officer Saini will join the Logistics Branch of the Air Force. Punjab Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Minister Aman Arora congratulated both the girls for their achievements and said that their success will definitely inspire other daughters of Punjab to look for opportunities to make a career in defense services.

The Punjab government has set up an NDA preparation wing for girls at Mai Bhago AFPI in July 2023. The second batch is currently undergoing training. He said that notably, Mai Bhago AFPI, functioning under the aegis of Punjab Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Department, has a fully residential campus with state-of-the-art infrastructure. Expressing satisfaction over both the alumni getting commissioned as flying officers, Mai Bhago AFPI Director Major General Jasbir Singh Sandhu (Retd) said that this achievement will further boost the state government’s efforts to send more girls to the pre-commission training academies of various armed forces.
