Washington: The war between Russia and Ukraine continues and there seems to be no sign of it stopping at the moment. In such a situation, the US State Department, highlighting bilateral cooperation with India in various fields, said that the US wants India to support its efforts to establish a lasting and just peace in Ukraine. Principal Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Vedant Patel said this in response to a question asked on Thursday about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

India is America’s partner

Vedant Patel said, “India is our partner in many key areas, and this was clearly demonstrated last summer when Prime Minister Modi visited the United States on a state visit.” Patel said, “Furthermore, in the context of the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict and its impact on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, we urge all our partners, including India, to support efforts to establish a lasting and just peace in Ukraine.” The Ministry of External Affairs called on Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine’s sovereign territory.

PM Modi visited Russia

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Russia on 8-9 July for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit. Western countries were closely watching this summit amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This was Modi’s first visit to Russia since the war between Russia and Ukraine began in 2022. During talks with Putin on July 9, Prime Minister Modi told him that the solution to the Ukraine conflict is not possible on the battlefield and peace efforts do not succeed amid bombs and bullets.

Relations between India and Russia have been strong

India has strongly defended its relations with Russia and the relations between the two countries have remained strong despite the Ukraine conflict. India has not yet condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and has consistently advocated a resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. (Language)
