US President Joe Biden has expressed concern over India’s stand on Russia’s attack on Ukraine. He says that India’s position in showing support against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is somewhat confusing. He said most of America’s friends and allies have shown solidarity in dealing with Vladimir Putin’s “aggressive stance”. The Russian army attacked Ukraine on 24 February, which continues till now. Three days before the attack, Russia recognized the independence of Ukraine’s separatist regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.
Biden told a meeting of CEOs on Monday, “The one thing I’m sure about knowing Putin so well is that he was confident of being able to split NATO.” He never imagined that NATO would remain settled, completely united. I can assure you that NATO has never been stronger or more united in history than it is today because of Russian President Vladimir Putin. “In response to their aggressive stance, we have shown solidarity in NATO and the Pacific,” he said. Apart from India, the Quad is united. India’s position is a bit confusing in terms of handling Putin’s attack but Japan is very strong and Australia is too.
Biden said last month that India and the US were trying to resolve their differences over the issue of Russia’s attack against Ukraine. “We have shown solidarity with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the Pacific, and you have done a lot to help us deal with the damage to the Russian economy and sanctions,” the US president told the meeting. Whatever you did is really important. Let us tell you that apart from India, all the countries of the Quad organization have unanimously condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine and also announced sanctions. But India has remained neutral on this issue and has neither openly condemned nor supported Russia.
