New Delhi: Many states of the country including Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat are experiencing severe heat. The Meteorological Department has predicted heat wave to last till May 22 in UP, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh. Apart from this, people of Bihar, Jharkhand and Bengal are not going to get respite from the heat.
It is extremely hot here
According to the information given by the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature recorded in Barmer and Kanpur on Saturday was 46.9 degrees Celsius. Apart from this, the temperature was recorded at 45.5 degrees in the Ridge area of Surendranagar (Gujarat), Delhi. At the same time, the temperature was recorded at 45.2 degrees in Ludhiana and 45 degrees in Gwalior.
Red alert of extreme heat in Delhi
At the same time, the hottest day of this season so far was recorded in the national capital on Saturday and the mercury reached 43.7 degrees Celsius. IMD issued a ‘red alert’ predicting that the extreme heat wave will continue in many parts of Delhi in the next two days. Mungeshpur recorded a maximum temperature of 46.8 degrees Celsius on Saturday, followed by 46.7 degrees Celsius in Najafgarh, 46.2 degrees Celsius in Pitampura, 46 degrees Celsius in Pusa, 45.2 degrees Celsius in Ayanagar and 44.2 degrees Celsius in Palam.

The maximum temperature recorded at Delhi’s main meteorological center at Safdarjung was 43.7 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees above the season’s normal and the highest maximum temperature so far this season. The Meteorological Department has predicted the maximum and minimum temperatures for Sunday to be around 44 and 28 degrees Celsius respectively.
Heavy rain warning in five states
While most parts of the country are experiencing scorching heat, there may be heavy rain in some states. According to the Meteorological Department, from May 19 to May 22, there may be heavy rain in Meghalaya, Interior South Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe. There is a possibility of rainfall here (115.5-204.5 mm). Whereas red alert of heavy rain has been issued in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. There is a possibility of more than 204.5 mm of rain here.
