Amit Shah said that with my approval, nine battalions of NDRF were sent to Wayanad by air on 23 July because there was a threat of landslide there. If the Kerala government had been alert after the arrival of NDRF teams and had sent people to a safe place in time, the damage in Wayanad could have been reduced. The Home Minister said that India is among those countries that can warn about natural disasters at least 7 days in advance. Many states had used the early warning system of the Center to limit the damage caused by natural disaster and it also benefited.

In Odisha, cyclone alert was sent seven days in advance and only one person died and that too by mistake, whereas in Gujarat, cyclone alert was sent three days in advance and not even a single animal died there. The Home Minister said that after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister in 2014, work on early warning system was started in the year 2016 and today India has the world’s most modern early warning system. He said that the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre is standing like a rock with the Government of Kerala and the people to deal with the Wayanad tragedy.
