Expansion
The T20 series between India and West Indies is over. Team India has once again cleared the Caribbean team by winning all the three matches of the series. Suryakumar and Venkatesh Iyer’s good performances in this series were the best thing for India, but poor fielding and Ishan Kishan’s form have added to India’s worries. India has to play T20 series against Sri Lanka from 24 February. In this series, Rohit and Dravid would like to work on India’s fielding as well as the opening pair.
Here we are telling what were the positive aspects for India in this series and in which areas Team India still needs to work.
middle order problem
The performance of India’s middle order batsmen in this series was excellent. Rishabh Pant, Venkatesh Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav performed well in all three matches. The team was not dependent on any one player, but all the batsmen were in good shape. Suryakumar Yadav also became the player of the series. Pant, Venkatesh and Suryakumar batted brilliantly in every match. For this reason, despite a simple start in every match, the Indian team managed to score big. If these three players are able to perform in the same way in the future, then India’s big problem can end.
Best performance by young bowlers
Apart from Bhuvneshwar and Chahal, there was no experienced bowler in the T20 series, but the young bowlers performed well in every match. Deepak Chahar, Harshal Patel and Ravi Bishnoi bowled brilliantly and the West Indies batsmen did not allow long partnerships. This happened in one match, but in the last over, the Indian bowlers brought their team back into the match and won.
Ravi Bishnoi Great find
Ravi Bishnoi made his international debut in the series against West Indies. In this series, he impressed everyone with his bowling and proved that he has the ability to play in the Indian team for a long time. Bishnoi spent runs skimpy in front of the batsmen who hit big sixes and also took wickets.
Captain Rohit Superhit
Rohit’s performance in the home series against West Indies has been excellent. He cleaned the Caribbean team in the first ODI and then in the T20 series. As captain, Rohit handled his bowlers very well. This team did not have key bowlers like Bumrah, Jadeja and Shami, but Rohit stopped the Caribbean batsmen from scoring runs on the strength of Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Harshal Patel.
Under Rahul’s captaincy, bowlers like Bhuvneshwar and Chahal proved ineffective, but as soon as Rohit returned, both the bowlers returned to their old rhythm. Rohit also made good use of Ravi Bishnoi, Deepak Chahar and Harshal Patel.
Opening pair raised concerns
Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan opened for India in this series, but both the batsmen could not perform according to their stature. Rohit batted well but he could not play a big innings in any match. At the same time, Kishan batted slow in all three matches and could not even score runs. Their struggle is the biggest thing of concern for India. Against Sri Lanka, Kishan has to pick up the momentum or else Rohit can give a chance to another player.
bad fielding problem
The fielding of the Indian team in the series against West Indies was very poor. Indian fielders dropped catches in every match and could not even catch difficult catches on most of the occasions. For this reason, in the second T20 match, the West Indies team also came back in the match. However, India won the match later, but India may have to face defeat if the catch is dropped against the big teams. Rohit and Dravid will have to work on this weakness.
Lack of variety in spin attack
In this series, India gave a chance to two leg spin bowlers. Both Chahal and Bishnoi bowled brilliantly but both are leg spinners. So there is a lack of variety in spin attack. Jadeja will join the team in the series against Sri Lanka. He is a left-arm off-spinner, but he also takes the ball away from the right-handed batsman. In such a situation, India will have to give more chances to bowlers like Kuldeep or Washington Sundar going forward and both will have to be prepared.
