Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra on Monday revealed that he is an investor in space startup Agnikul Cosmos, which last week launched the world’s first rocket with a fully 3D-printed engine. On Thursday, the rocket Agnibaan SORTED (Suborbital Technological Demonstrator) became India’s first semi-cryogenic engine-powered rocket launch, which was completely indigenously designed and manufactured. It was launched from India’s first privately developed launchpad ‘Dhanush’ set up by Agnikul at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh at 7:15 am on Thursday.

According to the news, the launch pad is located inside ISRO’s rocket port at Sriharikota. Anand Mahindra posted on social media platform X – You will see a rocket flying. You will also see the talent of young Indians flying. He said that they are my #MondayMotivation (Disclosure: I am an investor in @AgnikulCosmos). Agnibaan is a two-stage rocket with the capacity to carry a load of up to 300 kg to a height of 700 km. Rocket engines are powered by liquid oxygen / kerosene.
Hope to launch a mission by 2025
Agnikul Cosmos, a startup incubated at IIT Madras, in a post on X said that the Agnibaan SORTED vehicle operates on data acquisition systems and flight computers that were designed 100 per cent in-house. The flight was a controlled ascent with full 3-axis control with a fully developed and in-house designed autopilot, which took an expected 65 seconds, the company said. The rocket was also the first to fly with aviation-grade jet fuel and industrial-grade liquid oxygen, the company said. Agnikul Cosmos is expected to launch an orbital mission by 2025.
