Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai on Friday met party leader and former Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan at her residence in Chennai. The meeting comes at a time when there is speculation of differences between the two leaders after the party’s poor performance in Tamil Nadu in the Lok Sabha elections. After the meeting of the two leaders, Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai wrote on social media platform X, “I am happy to meet Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, who is one of the senior leaders of the party. Tamilisai has previously done a good job as the president of Tamil Nadu BJP. Her political experience and advice continue to inspire the growth of the party.”
Do not cross the Laxman Rekha
Annamalai also spoke to the media after meeting senior party leader and former governor Tamilasai. On the rift within Tamil Nadu BJP leaders during the Lok Sabha elections, Annamalai said, “BJP is a democratic party and people are free to express their opinion.” He also admitted that some statements during the elections were not correct. He said, “I have not silenced anyone. I am a leader who wants everyone to speak, provided you do not cross that Laxman Rekha.”
The video with Amit Shah went viral
Let us tell you that on June 9, a video went viral on social media. In this viral video, Union Home Minister Amit Shah was seen scolding Sundararajan on a stage. This video was of the swearing-in ceremony of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. In the viral video, it was seen that Home Minister Amit Shah was saying something to him angrily. On the viral video, Sundararajan had said that Amit Shah was advising him to do political and Lok Sabha constituency work intensively.
BJP could have performed better
At the same time, after the results of the Lok Sabha elections, Sundararajan had said that if the party had been in alliance with AIADMK, it could have performed better in Tamil Nadu. He openly supported an AIADMK leader, who had alleged during the elections that Annamalai was the reason for the separation between BJP and AIADMK.
It is known that in September 2023, AIADMK broke its alliance with BJP. The reason behind this was said to be Annamalai’s unnecessary remarks about former AIADMK leaders.
