Already amidst the turmoil going on in Congress regarding the name of the candidate in Amethi, Vikas Agrahari’s joining BJP is being considered as a big blow for Congress and especially Rahul Gandhi. It is noteworthy that Congress has not yet declared candidates for Amethi and Rae Bareli, which are considered its traditional seats. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi had filed nomination from two places: Amethi and Wayanad. Rahul Gandhi was defeated by BJP leader Smriti Irani from Amethi. After this, this time Rahul filed nomination from Wayanad. Although there are speculations that Rahul Gandhi may contest elections from Amethi again this time, but it is not confirmed yet.
Earlier, Priyanka Gandhi’s name was also discussed that she can contest elections from Amethi or Rae Bareli. Recently, Priyanka’s husband Robert Vadra has also intensified the political stir by giving a statement. Robert had said that if I get a chance to become a Member of Parliament, Amethi would be my first choice. Sonia Gandhi used to contest elections from Rae Bareli but this time she refused to contest elections citing health reasons. For this, he had also written a letter to the people of Rae Bareli.
