The name of the paper leak prevention law is Public Examination Act 2024. This law was passed by the Parliament in February 2024. Due to the Lok Sabha elections, its notification was not issued, but now after the alleged irregularities in the NEET and NET examinations, it has been implemented immediately. Under the Paper Leak Prevention Act, there is a provision of rigorous imprisonment of 3 to 10 years for the culprits. It also provides for a penalty of Rs 10 lakh to 1 crore. The law will be applicable on those who commit any kind of irregularity in all central examinations.
The law against paper leak states that if someone or a group of people leak the paper, then they will be punished with 5 to 10 years of imprisonment and a minimum fine of Rs 1 crore. If any institution is found involved in the paper leak, then its property will be destroyed and the entire cost of the examination will be recovered from it. Under the law, the accused of paper leak will not get bail. Under this law, only DSP and Assistant Commissioner level or officers above them will investigate the case. After the implementation of this law, the difficulties for those who leak the paper are going to increase a lot. Till now there was no special law to effectively stop those who leak the paper. In such a situation, the accused used to get away and then do the work of leaking the paper.
