The Editors Guild of India has objected to the new guidelines issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) for recognition of journalists. The Editors Guild said these arbitrary, vague and harsh instructions were issued with the aim of prohibiting critical and investigative reporting of government-related matters.
The organization demanded withdrawal of the guidelines and appealed to the PIB to talk to all the stakeholders for the revised guidelines.
The organization said that it is seriously concerned about the new guidelines. The new guidelines include several new provisions under which the recognition of a journalist can be canceled arbitrarily and without following any legal process.
