To provide internet in our home, we install a Wi-Fi router. If you are also going to buy a Wi-Fi router with this technology online or offline to run Internet at home, then your difficulty may increase. The government has banned its sale. Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has written a letter to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in this matter. According to the IANS report, routers with Wi-Fi 6E technology are being sold in India through online and offline channels, although the government has not yet allowed its sale.
Wi-Fi 6E routers being sold without permission
Currently, only Wi-Fi routers with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands have received permission for sale in India. Wi-Fi 6E routers support the above i.e. 6 GHz spectrum band. These routers are easily available on e-commerce platforms Amazon, Flipkart etc. COAI has written a letter to DoT on the sale of routers with this new technology without permission.
COAI has urged DoT to strictly ban the sale of this router. However, no policy has been issued by DoT yet in this matter. The industry body says that the sale of such routers can lead to unauthorized transmission, which will prove dangerous.
Legal action can be taken against the e-commerce platform as well as the purchasing consumer for selling such unauthorized devices. According to the Indian Telecom Act 2023, the owner and users of any spectrum will have to obtain permission from the Central Government.
