Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem after winning medals at the Paris Olympics
India and Pakistan have performed very well in the javelin throw event. Neeraj Chopra won silver for India in this event, while Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal for Pakistan. Both the players are very good friends as well as rivals on the field. Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal for India in the last Olympics. This time Pakistan won this medal. Nadeem won the gold medal with an Olympic record with a brilliant throw of 92.97 meters in the men’s javelin throw event of the Paris Olympics, while Chopra, who was defending his title, made a best throw of 89.45 meters.

When asked if the success of the two will make athletics popular in both India and Pakistan, Chopra said that it has already grown a lot. We are already seeing more talented javelin throwers in India. The same is happening in Pakistan. Chopra told Geo Cinema that when we went to the Asian Games, Arshad could not participate due to a knee injury, Yasir Sultan, who came to play in his place, threw very well. Arshad’s medal will inspire more children which is great.
Chopra was referring to last year’s Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, where he won a gold medal. When asked if the India-Pakistan rivalry will shift from cricket to javelin throw, Chopra said that it will be possible only when we have a lot of competitions like cricket. We have two big competitions. Olympics in four years and World Championship in two years. He further said that if there were more competitions, more and more people would watch it like they watch Diamond League and some other competitions.
What did Arshad Nadeem say about his friendship with Neeraj?
After winning the gold medal for Pakistan after 40 years, Nadeem said that I am very happy. Out of the hundreds of participating countries, Pakistan and India performed well. Neeraj won the gold medal in the (2023) World Championships in Budapest and this is a golden moment for me. Nadeem further said in his statement that our friendship is very strong and I want it to continue for a long time. When Nadeem was asked how many times he has seen the clip of the gold medal Olympic record throw, he said that I have seen it many times and I think I can do even better than this. I hope that one day I will be able to demonstrate this ability of mine.
