new Delhi. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) will include Artificial Intelligence and new forensic standards in its curriculum for chartered accountants. With this, financial fraud can be detected at an early stage. At the same time, 75 percent fee for CA studies will be waived for students of Jammu and Kashmir and North-Eastern states.
Over the years, it has been observed that in most cases frauds are detected only when they reach a large scale. The objective of this new course is to track financial irregularities in the first stages itself, so that big scams either do not happen or are detected at an early stage.
This is the first time the institute will bring such a major technological change in its international courses. Debashish Mitra, President, ICAI said, “We are introducing Artificial Intelligence, data analysis and new forensic standards in the new curriculum. The mission of ICAI is to provide a strong foundation of knowledge, skills and professional value that enables students to grow as professionals and adapt to change throughout their professional careers.
He said that ICAI’s constant endeavor is to provide world-class education, training and professional development opportunities to create global professionals. Aniket S Talati, Vice President, ICAI said, “We are introducing 23 new forensic standards in the curriculum. We will come up with a complete plan for education and training in the times to come, with more emphasis on developing high level skills of application, analysis and interpretation. A special feature of the new scheme will be the compulsory multidisciplinary case studies at the final level, which will help the students to integrate professional knowledge in different subject areas, analyze and apply such knowledge in problem solving.
Other features of the new scheme include reduction in the total number of papers and more focus on practical training. Given that a large number of students opt for service, the new curriculum aims to provide the necessary industry orientation through sales packed online modules, which students can learn and qualify for at their own pace.
ICAI President Dr Mitra said that in furtherance of its mission of contributing as true partners in nation building and empowering students, the Council of ICAI has received registrations from the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and 8 North-Eastern States. It has been decided to continue with the decision to waive off 75 percent of the fees of the students. Students from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura and Andaman and Nicobar Islands will continue to get 75 per cent waiver for CA studies till March 31, 2025.
Mitra said that this decision will be a step towards encouraging young candidates from these places who want to fulfill their dream of becoming a Chartered Accountant and serve the nation with their abilities and knowledge.
