New Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal did not get any relief from the Supreme Court today. On the petition of Delhi CM seeking bail in the case of arrest by CBI in the liquor policy scam, the apex court has issued a notice to CBI and sought a reply by August 23. With this, the Supreme Court refused to grant interim bail to Kejriwal. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, on behalf of Kejriwal, said in the Supreme Court that Delhi CM has already got interim bail in the case of arrest by ED. Based on the old order of the Supreme Court, he cited Kejriwal’s health reasons and demanded interim bail.
The bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan rejected his demand and fixed August 23 for the next hearing of the case. Arvind Kejriwal was first arrested by ED on March 21 in the money laundering case. Later, CBI also arrested him from ED custody. Recently, Delhi High Court rejected Arvind Kejriwal’s bail plea in the CBI case, now challenging the order of the High Court, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has knocked the door of the apex court.
Kejriwal has already got bail from the Supreme Court in the ED arrest case, but due to the CBI case, he is not able to come out of jail. Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, who was arrested in the same case, was also granted bail by the Supreme Court on 9 August. Sisodia has been released from jail after almost 17 months. Now the Aam Aadmi Party leaders are hopeful that Kejriwal will also get bail soon and he will be able to come out of jail.
