New Delhi. The Supreme Court today made an important comment regarding the bail plea of Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal, arrested in a money laundering case related to the Delhi liquor scam. The Supreme Court said that considering the Lok Sabha elections, granting interim bail to Kejriwal can be considered. A bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta said that it will hear the interim bail petition on Tuesday, May 7.
The Supreme Court said that the liquor scam case may take time, in such a situation we can consider interim bail of Kejriwal due to elections. The court has asked both the parties to come prepared for debate on the next date. The bench said that we are not saying anything right now on whether we will grant bail or not, if bail is granted then what could be the conditions, ED also has to answer about this. Earlier, during the hearing of the case on April 30, the Supreme Court had raised questions about the timing of Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest and asked the ED why the arrest was made just before the elections.
The court also asked Kejriwal why the notices sent to him by ED regarding appearing for questioning were ignored. The court had also asked why you came here against the arrest and remand, why did you not file an application in the trial court for bail. On this, Arvind Kejriwal’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi said in the court that we had responded to all the 9 summons of ED. He said that till March 16, Kejriwal was not an accused in the case, then what was the sudden change that he was made an accused.
