Kathmandu: Ever since Nepal released the anti-India map, there has been a flurry of resignations among people holding senior positions. After the resignation of the Economic Advisor to the President of Nepal, now Deputy Prime Minister and senior Madhesi leader Upendra Yadav has also resigned from his post on Monday. With this, his party separated from the government, which has dealt a blow to the coalition government led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda. Sources close to the Madhesi leader said that Health and Population Minister Yadav submitted his resignation to Prachanda on Monday morning.
Along with Yadav, Minister of State for Forest and Environment Deepak Karki has also submitted his resignation letter. He also comes from Yadav’s party. Yadav is the chief of Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal (JSP-Nepal) and there was a split in this party a week ago and senior leader Ashok Rai has formed a new party named Janata Samajbadi Party. The Election Commission has recognized the new party. Yadav said, “I submitted my resignation to Prime Minister Prachanda this morning. Given the current political situation, I find it inappropriate to continue our cooperation with the government.
Increasing threat to Prachanda’s government
The threat of instability is increasing for Prachanda’s government after one party after another left the government. JSP-Nepal had a total of 12 members in the House of Representatives. Now the party’s strength in the House of Representatives has reduced to five as Rai and six other MPs and 30 Central Committee members have joined the new party. However, the Prachanda-led coalition government still has the majority. CPN-UML, which is part of the alliance, has 77 seats in the House of Representatives, CPN (Maoist Centre) has 32, Rashtriya Swatantra Party has 21, newly formed Janata Samajwadi Party has seven and CPN-Unified Socialist (CPN-US) has 10 seats. Are. The alliance needs at least 138 seats in the 275-member House of Representatives to prove majority.
Sunil Manandhar, a former environment minister and central committee member of the ruling CPN (Maoist Centre), said, “The party’s withdrawal from the government will not have an immediate impact on the Prachanda-led coalition government.” However, he said it could have some impact on the stability of the government in the long term.
