New Delhi. Rajasthan High Court has granted 7 days parole to Asaram who is serving life sentence in Jodhpur Central Jail in sexual assault case. The High Court has accepted Asaram’s plea for treatment. Asaram will be taken to Maharashtra for treatment in police custody. On 10th August, the hospital administration admitted Asaram to Jodhpur AIIMS after he complained of chest pain. After this, Asaram applied for parole which was accepted by the division bench of Rajasthan High Court judge Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati.
Asaram has been in jail since September 2013. Since then, for the first time, Asaram’s parole application has been accepted. In 2018, a special POCSO court in Jodhpur convicted Asaram of raping a minor and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Earlier, Asaram had approached the Supreme Court to suspend the sentence of life imprisonment citing poor health. In March 2024, the Supreme Court refused to consider Asaram’s plea. Earlier in September 2023, the Supreme Court rejected Asaram’s bail plea.
In 2022, Asaram’s lawyer had pleaded for bail from the Rajasthan High Court citing Asaram’s advancing age and deteriorating health, but no relief was received from there. After this, an application was filed in the Supreme Court challenging the order of the High Court. It is worth noting that Asaram’s son Narayan Sai is also serving life imprisonment in a rape case. A woman from Surat had accused him of sexual exploitation. In December 2013, Narayan Sai was arrested near the Delhi-Haryana border. The Surat court convicted Narayan Sai in April 2019 and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
